Privacy & data
Zero usage data collection; everything stays on your machine; the three network scenarios, spelled out.
Zero usage data collection
This product collects and uploads no usage data: the installer contains no telemetry code, nothing is sent to any analytics service at runtime, and no device identifier is generated. This is not a setting — it is the product's default and only behavior.
What stays on your machine
All of your data lives locally (data directory: %APPDATA%\ChengYoung; upgrading from an older version migrates it automatically):
- Conversations and session history;
- App settings and preferences;
- Downloaded model files;
- Extension and workflow configuration.
Model provider API keys are stored in the OS credential manager (Windows Credential Manager / macOS Keychain), never in plaintext files.
The three network scenarios
Apart from the following, the app initiates no network requests:
- Model downloads: on-demand from Hugging Face or ModelScope, one-time, stored locally;
- Update checks: queried from GitHub (manual check available in Settings);
- Your own cloud provider: only if you configure a cloud provider will conversation data be sent to that provider (governed by its privacy policy); this scenario does not exist when using local models.
Cleanup & exit
- Sessions can be deleted individually or in bulk;
- Deleting the data directory erases all local data completely;
- Uninstalling sends data to no one.
